   Appendix/ Abdominal Tonsil

❖ 4 layers:

                    Mucosa

                    Submucosa

                    Muscularis

                    Serosa

❖MUCOSA

       

       ❃lined by simple columnar cells with                  numerous goblet cells

      ❃devoid of villi

      ❃crypts of lieberkuhn are few and short

      ❃muscularis mucosa is disrupted by                  lymphatic follicles

❖SUBMUCOSA

   

     ❃contain a ring of large lymphatic                   follicles with germinal centers.                     Hence the name "Abdominal-

 Tonsil."

❖MUSCULARIS EXTERNA

     

    ❃consist of outer longitudinal and                       inner circular muscle layers.
